The management tax
Every regression cycle, somebody has to figure out which test cases to run. This means opening the master spreadsheet (hope you have the latest version), filtering by feature area, checking which tests were added or modified since last cycle, and assigning them to testers. Each tester then copies the test cases to their own tracking sheet or tab, executes them, and records results. At the end of the cycle, someone consolidates the results. If two testers ran overlapping tests (it happens when assignments aren't clear), someone reconciles the duplicates. If a tester was out sick and their tests didn't get reassigned, someone catches that gap — or doesn't.
Consolidation takes another 2-4 hours. So before any test execution even counts, you've burned 5-7 hours of senior QA time on logistics. Spreadsheet hell

I want to be clear: this is not an argument against manual testing. Manual testing — a human being using the software and making judgments about its behavior — is irreplaceable. Exploratory testing, usability assessment, the "this feels wrong" instinct that catches design issues no automated test would flag — these require human testers.
The argument is against manual test *management*. The spreadsheet maintenance, the assignment logistics, the result consolidation, the traceability tracking — this is administrative overhead that a tool should handle.
