What Specwise is
Specwise turns a business or product requirements document into a Playwright test suite, a bidirectional requirement-to-test-to-result traceability matrix, and audit-ready exports. It reads your BRD or PRD, extracts requirements with stable IDs, drafts test cases linked to those requirements, and keeps the matrix that ties everything back together.
The output is a normal Playwright project — standard .spec.ts files and standard export formats. There is no proprietary format and no lock-in: if you leave, your tests and your exports leave with you.
Who it is for
Specwise is built for QA and quality leads at regulated mid-market companies — medical devices, fintech, automotive, and regulated SaaS — who have formal requirements to test against and audit artifacts to produce, but who do not have a dedicated Playwright engineer in-house.
If your team already has a senior Playwright engineer, you probably do not need us — the open tools cover that case well. Specwise is for the team that needs the traceability and the audit evidence without standing up the test engineering from scratch.
The approach
We build on top of Playwright rather than around it. Playwright Test runs the tests, in your CI and your repository; we use Playwright's own tooling for browser actions and generation rather than reimplementing them. Our work sits at the input side — reading the requirements document and surfacing ambiguity — and the output side: the traceability matrix and the compliance exports that give your audit something concrete to point at.
We are not your quality management system and not your system of record. Specwise generates owned test evidence that feeds the QMS you already run. The generated requirements and test cases are drafts that your team reviews and approves; you remain responsible for validation and for your own compliance. We describe the security controls that exist in the product and let you verify them, rather than claiming certifications we do not hold.
